Since the beginning of times, women have always been conscious about their fashion and their accessories. No matter what their age is or where they are, they have taken utmost care to look fashionable and have kept themselves au fait with the changing trends in the fashion. But, every decade has seen a drastic change in the way women have dressed and carried themselves in the society. Here is an insight into the Ladies’ fashions from the middle of the last century.
1950s: if one word could define this period, it would be Elegance. From head to toe, women of this era were living examples of elegance. With dresses similar to that of maids of today, going just a little past the knees with cap sleeves and usually buttoned up, the task became very easy. The special feature of this era was the hair of these women that was more subjected to the curling iron than ever. On the top though, the hair was flat but the real curls started around the ears. Black , blonde or red these were the only three colours of hair back then. Make up was all concentrated on the lipstick. White dress and red lipstick was a trademark of the ladies fashions of this decade.
1960s: if plain clothes were signature to 50s, bright colours, funky patterns were the motto of the 60s. Complete opposite of the previous decade, the dress was now pulled up a couple of inches. The dress was broken into two pieces with a blouse underneath, covered by a bright coloured dress on top. Hot pink, electric blue were the most common colour codes of the ladies’ fashions of this period. The shoes of this decade were never of one solid colour and were as funky as the dresses. The hair was the same, curled, but with a twist. The use of hairspray along with curling iron was essential. The makeup though did not change at all except for the fact that the lipstick was more or less done away with, concentrating on the eye more. Wild Colours would be apt to describe this decade of ladies fashions.
1970s: again, just one word to give you the exact idea as to what this decade was all about. Disco. This period gave birth to the extremely tight fitting high waisted pants, popularly known as ‘bell bottoms’. These went higher than your belly button and were accompanied by blouses. Blouses became very famous in the 70s with floral or metallic patterns being worn most of the time. Shoes were ridiculously high. The hair though, had grown past the shoulders and was given full volume. You really did not have to work upon them as much as the previous decades. But the makeup was extraordinary. Wild is the only word that can describe the makeup of the 70s. imagine the craziest colours that you can and then put them as makeup. You will have the 70s look.
So there you have it. An insight into the world of ladies fashions in the mid-1900s. Hope you find it informative enough.
